Torque Washers
A
Preferred for strong carriage bolt joints
Torque washers increase the bearing area under a carriage bolt’s head, and prevent it from
spinning as it is tightened. They are ideal for use in constructing swing sets, docks, and
decks. Torque washers have four prongs that bite into the lumber to prevent spinning, and
a central, square hole for the carriage bolt under-head square nut. They work best with
softwoods and man-made composite lumber. They are not likely to give good results with
tropical hardwoods like Ipe. Made in China.

Easy to forget, hard to build without!

For some reason, it is surprisingly easy to forget that you need hex nuts if you are building
with either carriage bolts or hex-head cap screws! Heavy-duty hex-head cap screws and
carriage bolts are great for exterior projects, but you need to use the correct nut, too. These
heavy duty hex nuts are the perfect match for our stainless steel and hot-dip galvanized
fasteners. Note: Stainless steel sometimes “galls” (seizes) when tightened under a load,
especially with larger fasteners. To prevent this, apply Markal “Anti-Seize”, which also
works well with standard steel threaded fasteners. Caution: Stainless steel and the zinc
in galvanized steel are very dissimilar and will react to each other. Do Not Mix bolts and
