Self-Drilling, Self-Tapping Screws
A
Used extensively for sheet metal! These screws have special points that drill through the
steel sheet metal quickly, then self-tap the hole and pull everything together securely.
Available in 305 (18-8) and 316 stainless steel for ultimate corrosion resistance. When
building in a seaside environment, use 316 stainless fasteners to achieve adequate corrosion
resistance. Imported.

What About Those Point Sizes?
Self-drilling/self-tapping screws must be matched to the thickness of the
material they will fasten to work properly. Unlike fasteners selected by length
and diameter, these screws are specified by point size. The self-drilling point
must be through the material before the self-tapping begins, so the drill point
must be longer than the combined thickness of the materials being fastened. The
screw will crossthread if the materials are separated when tapping begins and
will cause thread stripping or drive stalling.

Decking Screws B
These self-drilling countersinking stainless steel screws are designed for attaching plywood
or solid-wood decking to the metal frames of truck trailers. Wings protruding from the shank
cut a clearance hole, then fold up when they hit the metal decking. They work with a total
metal thickness of 7/64” to 13/64”. Use 2” screws for 1”-thick decking, and 2-1/2” screws for
1-1/2” thick decking. Imported.
