Trim washers have many uses: they can dress-up screw heads when you need to leave them
exposed, or to “convert” a flat head screw to a round washer or pan-head type screw when
the screw cannot be countersunk. They also help distribute the load over a wider area when
fastening soft materials. Use them as eyes, headlights or other decorative effects on toys
and craft projects. We stock these in three sizes (#6, #8, #10) and three finishes. Each pack
contains 100 trim washers. Imported.

Brass Threaded Inserts
Threaded inserts look like short, thick walled tubes that have screw
threads on both the inside and outside. They are installed by drilling
a pilot hole and screwing in the insert. Some inserts may be installed
using flat bladed screwdrivers, which are
prone to slipping. However, most inserts
require the use of special piloted drivers, which help prevent
slippage. Threaded inserts hold best and are easier to use
when installed in the side or face of the grain. They are
actually threaded into the material rather than pressed in
place like “tee” nuts, the load may be applied from either face.
“Tee” nuts also provide internal threads but have a flange
with protruding stakes which lock into the wood, holding
it in position and preventing rotation. “Tee” nuts must be
installed such that the flange is pulled against the wood
when a load is applied. If installed backwards, the “tee”
nut will simply unseat when a load is applied. Installation
is simple, just drill the appropriate-size pilot hole and pound the nut into position.
These work well in most hardwoods, plywood (chamfer the entry hole to minimize veneer
lift), furniture, storm windows, crating and cabinetry. They may be installed using a flatbladed screw driver, but either the dedicated installation tool or a homemade tool will
generally provide better results.

are either too thin to effectively thread or are too soft to allow for repeated assembly
