CrystaLac waterborne finishes and stains were highly
regarded by large furniture factories but almost
unknown to everyone else until recently. The finishes
are easy to use, durable, quick-drying, odorless and
environmentally safe. They build quickly due to a high
solids content yet offer high clarity. Ideal for use with
HVLP systems, CrystaLac is available in formulations
designed for both brushing and spraying.
CrystaLac Product Guide
The following table rates the three CrystaLac topcoat products according to their
primary properties relative to each other. In other words, according to the chart,
polyurethane has the highest chemical resistance ranking. In addition , ideal

Warm Dye Toner
Sometimes the crystal-clarity of CrystaLac® Super Premium or Polyurethane Floor Finish
is a disadvantage when trying to reproduce the amber tone of a traditional varnish or
nitrocellulose lacquer finish. Change that by adding a bit of this Warm Dye Toner to either
CrystaLac finish to “warm-up” the wood. Mix up to 4 oz. per 1 gal. of CrystaLac® topcoat (any
sheen). Warm Dye Toner is compatible with CrystaLac® Premium but not generally used with
it since Premium already has a traditional amber tone.

If you have done much finishing at all, you know the frustration of “fisheyes” – those little
spots where the finish just won’t flow out no matter how hard you talk to it. Wipe CrystaLac®
Surface Conditioner over a finished surface to remove sanding dust and debris, residue from
stearated abrasives, and oily fingerprints or to promote intercoat bonding. Not for use on
bare wood. With good finishing technique, you probably won’t need Surface Conditioner, but
when the fisheyes appear, you’ll be glad you put a little on the shelf.

CrystaLac® “Clear” Wood Grain Filler

Get a glass-smooth finish, even on Oak!
A clear wood grain filler? CrystaLac’s® grain filler really does dry virtually clear so that
every bit of the wood’s color (stained or not) comes through. Wood grain fillers are applied
before topcoats to fill the pores for a glass-smooth finish. Simply rub it in and trowel it off
to remove the excess. Filler left in the pores levels the surface. Tint with a dab of latex paint
colorant or universal tint (available from most paint stores). May be used with waterborne or
solvent based topcoats. For best results, stain the wood before application. Wood grain filler
is not designed to fill nail holes, use wood putty for that.

If you have spent any time finishing with lacquer, varnish or shellac, you know how important
it is to control the air temperature and humidity. Failure to do so can result in a textbook’s
worth of unpleasant results, like blushing, bubbles or orange peel.
This temperature and humidity gauge is nice and big (6” dia.) so you can see at a glance
whether the environment is suitable. The molded frame and glass face are suitable for
indoor use. It reports temperatures from 30º to 250º F with an accuracy of ±2%, and relative
humidity from 0 to 100% with an accuracy of ±2%. Imported.
