Use your jigsaw to cope crown!

D
The old saying, “Measure twice and cut once!” really applies to installing crown molding, and
the coping angle can make all the difference between a perfect fit the first time and a lot
of “adjustment time” with a wood rasp. The patented EasyCoper really simplifies the task of
coping crown molding. Even your first attempt will be nearly perfect!
EasyCoper consists of right-hand and left-hand guide plates that are screwed to a work
surface, slightly overhanging the edge. (Tip: Attach them as a pair to a board that you can
clamp to a portable workbench.) After mitering the end of the molding, place the crown in
the guide, face up. Then use your jig saw like a coping saw to remove the waste material by
following the molding profile exposed by the miter cut. The large flat end surface is beveled
so that you can follow the profile at the perfect relief angle. There is plenty of visibility so
it’s easy to do. EasyCoper is designed to cope crown moldings with a 52/38º spring angle,
the most common, but includes instruction for use with 45º crown as well. It works with
crown up to 5-1/2” wide. EasyCoper works best with a fine-tooth, narrow blade, such as a
Bosch T1190BO (Part # RBB-B119). Made of durable plastic. View a demonstration video at
